Confeitaria Nacional

Founded in 1829 on the Praça da Figueira, this was among the first houses in Lisbon to make bolo-rei, working from a French recipe adapted to Portuguese taste, and the crown-shaped Christmas cake is still the shop's calendar. The date is recorded on the building itself, and the ground-floor room keeps its counters and mirrored casework.
