Smock Alley Theatre
The site carried the first Theatre Royal from 1662, the only theatre of that title built outside England, and the present room is a 19th-century church, Saint Michael and John's, that incorporates structural material from a later 18th-century theatre on the same ground. It spent years as a warehouse before being restored and reopened as a theatre in 2012, 350 years after the first opening.
