Friedhof der Namenlosen

A burial ground opened in 1840 at Albern for bodies the Danube washed ashore, most of them never identified; the last nameless burial recorded here was in 1940. Céline and Jesse reach it down a flight of stone steps, the furthest-out location in the film and the one the city's own walking route lists as off the route. The plot is small, fenced and listed by the federal monuments office, with graves still tended by volunteers.
