Wittumspalais
The Baroque mansion went up in the middle of the 18th century, while Weimar was pulling down its medieval walls and turning the old zwinger, now Schillerstrasse, into an esplanade. It changed hands before it was finished: the owner, a minister at the Weimar court, passed it to Duchess Anna Amalia, who was looking for a residence after she was widowed, and it has been known as the dower palace since. Entry is free, and the foundation runs guided tours for groups of blind and visually impaired visitors as well as provision for visitors who are hard of hearing.
