Fort Rucker

The Army aviation post outside Ozark was renamed Fort Novosel in 2023 and returned to Fort Rucker under the June 2025 order. The Army's announcement assigns the name to Capt. Edward W. Rucker, a Distinguished Service Cross recipient who flew behind enemy lines in World War I and engaged a numerically superior enemy formation in aerial combat. It is the same surname the installation carried from 1942, with a different man behind it.
