Fort Lee

Named in 1917 for Robert E. Lee, the Petersburg post became Fort Gregg-Adams in 2023 and reverted in 2025. The name now attaches to Pvt. Fitz Lee, a Medal of Honor recipient who, during a coastal assault in Cuba in the Spanish-American War, went ashore under direct enemy fire to bring back wounded men. Militarytimes ran a 2021 photograph of the main gate with its June 2025 report on the seven reversions.
