Fort Hood

Renamed Fort Cavazos in 2023, the Killeen post was redesignated Fort Hood again in June 2025 after Hegseth signed the order, with the formal ceremony on 28 July. The Army's own announcement names the new honoree as Col. Robert B. Hood, a Distinguished Service Cross recipient who directed artillery fire under enfilading machine-gun fire near Thiaucourt, France, in World War I, and reorganised his crew within minutes after losing it. The Confederate general John Bell Hood, for whom the post was named in 1942, is not part of the current citation.
