Fort Gordon

The Augusta signal post spent two years as Fort Eisenhower before the June 2025 reversion, and OpenStreetMap still carries Fort Eisenhower as its old name. The restored Gordon commemorates Master Sgt. Gary I. Gordon, who volunteered to be inserted at a helicopter crash site during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu and held off an advancing force after exhausting his ammunition, not Confederate general John B. Gordon. Gordon's Medal of Honor citation is the document the Army cites in its announcement of the seven installation changes.
