Fort Bragg

The post was renamed Fort Liberty in 2023 under the congressional naming commission, dropping Confederate general Braxton Bragg. In early February 2025 Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth signed a memorandum reverting it, and a redesignation ceremony hosted by Lt. Gen. Greg Anderson of XVIII Airborne Corps restored the Bragg colors, this time for Pfc. Roland L. Bragg, who during the Battle of the Bulge drove a stolen German ambulance twenty miles to get a wounded soldier to an Allied hospital in Belgium. Officials put the cost of the second change at roughly 70 percent of what the first one cost in 2023.
