Fort Benning

In May 2023 the post became Fort Moore, for Lt. Gen. Harold Moore and his wife Julia, the first Army installation named in part for a military spouse. Hegseth ordered the reversion on 3 March 2025, and the Benning name returned attached not to Confederate general Henry Benning but to Cpl. Fred Benning, a World War I infantryman. Steve Moore, the Moores' son, told CBS News he had to ask how a couple of years of service compared with his parents' lifetime of it.
