Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery

The casualty clearing stations behind Poperinge worked here from 1914 to 1919, and the burial ground grew in the order the men died rather than by regiment, which is why the rows read almost as a calendar of the Salient. It holds 10,784 First World War graves plus one later burial, among them 883 of other nationalities, eleven of whom are unnamed. It is the second largest Commonwealth burial ground in Belgium, and was among the Flanders funerary sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023.
