Bard Cottage Cemetery

Begun in June 1915 beside a house sheltered from view by the canal bank, and kept in use until October 1918, with burials from the 49th (West Riding) and 38th (Welsh) Divisions among others. The original plots were enlarged after the Armistice, bringing the total to 1,639 graves, of which 1,603 are identified: an unusually high proportion for the Salient, because most of these men were buried by their own units rather than gathered from the field.
