Hurricane Rick (2009)
Developing off the southern coast of Mexico in mid-October, the system found favourable conditions and became a hurricane within 24 hours of being declared a tropical depression. Early on October 18 it reached winds of 180 mph and a central pressure of 906 mbar. It then weakened, brushing the tip of Baja California Sur before coming ashore near Mazatlan on October 21 with winds reported at 60 to 65 mph, the estimates differing between accounts. Damage was significantly less than initially anticipated.
