1910 Wellington avalanche
Two Great Northern trains had come west through the Cascade Tunnel and were held near the railway town in King County, Washington, after snow blocked the line during a nine-day blizzard. In the hours after midnight a mass of snow came off Windy Mountain, which stood above the unsheltered station, and carried both trains into the canyon about 150 feet below the tracks. Railway employees and other residents dug for survivors through the following day, and help from outside did not reach the site until the night of 2 March.
